About this role
About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
Anthropic's Data Center Security Engineering team owns physical security for the data centers where our AI systems are built and run from greenfield construction through live operations, across our own and partner-operated sites. As our footprint grows internationally, we're hiring our first security operations presence in Australia.
This is a country-lead role as the senior DCSE presence in Australia with a deliberate tilt toward security systems and systems architecture. You'll be the on-the-ground owner of day-to-day security operations for the region, and you'll also be the technical owner of the systems those operations run on: access control, video management, intrusion detection, and visitor management platforms and, just as importantly, the way they integrate. We want someone who thinks in data flows and system interfaces, not just devices You'll help design and build toward that architecture while keeping regional operations running with high reliability.
You'll work closely with US-based security engineering and operations teams, with the time-zone offset as a feature: this role anchors coverage and escalation when the US is offline, and may help stand up a regional 24/7 monitoring capability as the program matures.
Key responsibilities
Serve as the regional operations lead for data center physical security in Australia: run site security programs, coordinate with site operators and contract guard forces, and own in-region incident response and escalation
Administer and operate the region's electronic security systems access control, video management (VMS), intrusion detection, and visitor management including configuration, health monitoring, and lifecycle management
Design and document security systems architecture: device schedules, integration points, data flows, and network topology for security infrastructure at new and existing sites
Build and maintain integrations that bring security data sources (video, access events, alarms, sensors) into centralized monitoring and analysis platforms
Support construction-phase security for new builds and modular deployments in region: design reviews, commissioning of security systems, and security gates before handover
Manage regional security vendors and integrators scoping, delivery quality, and accountability
Write and maintain the operational backbone: post orders, standard operating procedures, and audit-ready documentation for regional security controls
Provide after-hours coverage and structured handoffs to US-based teams as part of follow-the-sun security operations
Minimum qualifications
Hands-on experience administering enterprise physical security systems, including access control platforms and video management systems (e.g., Genetec, Lenel, Milestone, C•CURE, or comparable)
Experience running physical security operations at data centers, critical infrastructure, or comparable high-security facilities
Ability to produce and work from security design documentation: drawings, device schedules, and network diagrams
Remote within NSW, VIC, or ACT (Sydney, Melbourne, or Canberra preferred), with regular travel to data center sites, and authorization to work in Australia.
Preferred qualifications
8+ years across physical security operations and security systems engineering
Direct data center experience, including construction-phase or greenfield security commissioning
Experience standing up or operating a SOC/GSOC or comparable 24/7 monitoring operation
Familiarity with PSIM or SIEM platforms and physical-security network segmentation practices
Experience managing contract guard forces and security integrators
Experience designing or implementing integrations between security systems APIs, event streams, or middleware to consolidate data across platforms
Logistics
Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to h
