About this role
ABOUT ABRIDGE
Abridge was founded in 2018 with the mission of powering deeper understanding in healthcare. Our AI-powered platform was purpose-built for medical conversations, improving clinical documentation efficiencies while enabling clinicians to focus on what matters most—their patients.
Our enterprise-grade technology transforms patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real-time, with deep EMR integrations. Powered by Linked Evidence and our purpose-built, auditable AI, we are the only company that maps AI-generated summaries to ground truth, helping providers quickly trust and verify the output. As pioneers in generative AI for healthcare, we are setting the industry standards for the responsible deployment of AI across health systems.
We are a growing team of practicing MDs, AI scientists, PhDs, creatives, technologists, and engineers working together to empower people and make care make more sense. We have offices located in the Mission District in San Francisco, the SoHo neighborhood of New York, and East Liberty in Pittsburgh.
The Role
As a Staff Mixed Methods User Researcher at Abridge, you will help shape the future of AI-powered healthcare by deeply understanding the people, workflows, and systems our products support. Reporting to the Head of User Research, you’ll lead strategic research that influences product direction, roadmap decisions, and how Abridge builds trustworthy, high-impact AI experiences.
Healthcare is complex, high-stakes, and deeply human. You’ll bring clarity to that complexity by studying how clinicians, care teams, administrators, and health systems work today, and where AI can meaningfully reduce burden, improve trust, and create better outcomes. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, you’ll uncover unmet needs, surface product opportunities, and translate evidence into actionable insights for cross-functional teams.
This role is ideal for an experienced researcher with mixed methods expertise and demonstrated experience conducting healthcare research, ideally with clinicians, care teams, or enterprise healthcare systems. This role is based in New York City or San Francisco.
What You’ll Do
- Lead high-impact mixed methods research that shapes product strategy across clinical, revenue cycle, and AI-assisted workflows.
- Develop a deep understanding of how clinicians, care teams, administrators, and healthcare stakeholders work in real-world settings through interviews, contextual inquiry, workflow observation, surveys, and product data.
- Identify unmet needs, adoption barriers, trust dynamics, and product opportunities across specialties, care settings, health systems, and user roles.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Engineering, Data Science, Clinical, Customer Success, and Go-to-Market teams to translate research into clear product direction and roadmap implications.
- Triangulate qualitative insights, quantitative data, product metrics, customer feedback, and domain expertise to bring clarity to complex decisions.
- Influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams through sharp synthesis, compelling storytelling, and actionable recommendations.
- Raise the bar for research rigor, ethics, and participant privacy in a high-trust healthcare and AI environment.
What You’ll Bring
- 8+ years of user research experience, including Staff-level or equivalent experience leading complex, ambiguous research programs that influence product strategy.
- Background in healthcare research; experience conducting research into physician or care team workflows
- Proven ability to independently design and execute both qualitative and quantitative research, including interviews, contextual inquiry, and surveys
- Experience conducting foundational research that identifies unmet needs, product opportunities, and strategic roadmap implications.
- Strong analytical skills; comfortable working with quantitative data, survey analysis, product metrics, and triangulating evidence across multiple sources.
- Exceptional synthesis, storytelling, and executive communication skills
- Strong cross-functional partnership with product, design, engineering, data science, customer-facing teams, and domain experts
- High judgment around research ethics, participant privacy, sensitive data, and research rigor in regulated or high-trust environments
Bonus Points If…
- Experience researching complex workflows, ideally in healthcare, enterprise SaaS, AI products, EHRs, clinical documentation, or other technical/high-stakes domains.
- Strong quantitative research or data analysis expertise, including SQL, statistical analysis, or advanced survey methods.
- Experience researching AI-assisted workflows, trust, quality, human review, or adoption of automation in expert domains.
- Experience presenting high-impact research to executives and shaping company-level product opportunities.
