About this role
The Mission
Descript is revolutionizing how traditional editing methodologies and AI technologies come together in every part of the creation process (recording, transcribing, editing, and sharing) to make it faster and easier than ever to create high quality content.
About the team:
You'll be part of the Growth engineering team, working alongside other engineers focused on acquisition, activation, and monetization. You'll own the marketing website — the front door to Descript that drives self-serve signups, and enables the enterprise sales motion. While you sit within Growth Engineering, the role is deeply cross-functional: you'll partner closely with Marketing, Brand, Design, and GTM to bring the web experience to life.
We're looking for someone who thinks in systems, not just pages — with the architectural judgment to shape the platform and the craft to ship polished work. Your decisions will directly affect sales funnel, campaign performance, and SEO, and you'll have the autonomy to own it end to end.
What You'll Work On
Own the platform
Set the technical direction for the CMS and component system — clear architectural boundaries, consistent guardrails, and a foundation that lets marketing and design move fast without fragility
Enhance and maintain a release and QA discipline: rollback processes, staging environments, and deployment confidence
Own Core Web Vitals and page speed performance as a first-class concern — and help connect them to measurable conversion rate impact
Own analytics instrumentation an event taxonomy governance — the technical source of truth for what's happening across the funnel
Ship the web experiences
Build reusable components and page patterns that make new landing pages and campaigns quick to stand up without one-off engineering lifts
Maintain and extend A/B testing setup so Marketing team can run clean experiments on those pages at velocity
Partner with Brand, Design, and Marketing to translate campaigns, landing pages, and brand work into production web code — fast, pixel-faithful, and performant
Own the technical quality of what ships: accessibility, Core Web Vitals, SEO fundamentals (schema, rendering, structured data), and cross-browser/device behavior
Cross-functional enabler and partner
Be the engineering partner Marketing, Growth, and GTM teams rely on to move fast without breaking the pipeline
Enable self-serve content workflows through CMS so creative teams can publish without engineering bottlenecks
Collaborate with GTM and Rev Ops to maintain guardrails on form and routing decisions that affect lead flow reliability
What You Bring
Required:
5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a meaningful amount of it focused on web frontend or marketing engineering
Experience working with a headless CMS or visual editor (Contentful, Builder.io , Webflow, or similar)
Solid foundation in HTML and CSS — you understand the DOM, can debug layout issues without a framework crutch, and take accessibility (a11y) seriously
Strong command of TypeScript/JavaScript and React — you write clean, maintainable code and you care about the difference
Hands-on experience with Next.js — you understand SSR, SSG, ISR, and when to use which
Deep familiarity with web performance: Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse, lazy loading, bundle optimization
Comfort with full-stack work: REST APIs, serverless functions, data pipelines, and integrations with third-party services
Systems thinker who can hold the big picture (platform strategy, cross-functional dependencies) and the details (a broken event tag, a slow LCP) at the same time
Strong communicator: you can translate technical constraints into plain language for marketing and GTM stakeholders, and you know when to push back
Nice to Have:
Prior work at a B2B SaaS or PLG company where the website directly supported both self-serve and sales-led motions
Experience with experimentation platforms (LaunchDarkly, Eppo, or custom frameworks)
Familiarity with marketing analytics and GTM tooling (Amplitude, Segment, Google Tag Manager, Salesforce integrations)
Background in technical SEO — schema markup, crawl optimization, rendering strategy
Experience with lead enrichment and inbound routing platforms (Default, Clearbit, RB2B, or similar)
The base salary range for this role is $160,000 - $215,000/year. Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, and location, and may vary from the amount above.
