About this role

About us Axiomatic AI is building a new class of AI systems designed to reason with the rigor of the scientific method. By combining deep learning with formal logic and physics-based modeling, we create verifiable, interpretable AI systems that collaborate with and support human researchers in high-stakes scientific and engineering workflows.  Our mission, 30×30 , is to deliver a 30× improvement in the speed, accessibility, and cost of semiconductor and photonic hardware development by 2030.  We aim to revolutionize hardware design and simulation in these industries and are building a team of highly motivated professionals to bring these innovations from research into commercial products.   Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Field Application Engineer with expertise across the PIC development lifecycle - from device and circuit design through simulations, tapeout, characterization, and yield analysis. This role is intended for engineers who have product experience and understand the realities of developing manufacturable photonic systems in production environments. You will work at the intersection of photonic engineering, scientific AI, and verification-driven workflow development. Partnering with customer engineering teams, applied scientists, and Axiomatic’s Technology groups, you will help transform complex photonic development processes into structured, AI-assisted workflows built on the Axiomatic Intelligence platform. The role is both technical and customer-facing. You will engage directly with PIC designers, Foundry and EDA partners, and engineering leadership to identify critical bottlenecks, architect deployable solutions, and integrate AI-assisted workflows into real engineering environments. This is an ideal opportunity for experienced photonics engineers who want to extend their impact beyond traditional PIC design and help shape the next generation of AI-native engineering tools for photonics and semiconductor development. The role offers a path toward technical leadership in AI-assisted engineering, workflow architecture and scientific AI systems. Your Mission Architect AI-assisted workflows for photonic design, verification, and yield improvement on the Axiomatic Intelligence platform, enabling customer engineering teams to accelerate development while maintaining technical rigor and manufacturability. Translate complex photonic engineering processes — including simulation setup, compact modeling, variability analysis, layout-aware optimization, and measurement interpretation  into verifiable workflows that combine physics-based methods with Axiomatic-native reasoning systems. Work directly with customer engineering teams to identify high-value bottlenecks and deliver deployable solutions that integrate with existing EDA tools, simulation environments, PDK ecosystems, and best engineering practices. Build physics-grounded and measurement-enriched models that improve design confidence, accelerate iteration cycles, and enable scalable analysis across process corners and fabrication variability. Collaborate closely with Axiomatic’s technology,  infrastructure, and product teams to convert customer-driven prototypes and technical insights into reusable platform capabilities and scalable product features. Key Requirements  MSc or PhD in a science or engineering field (e.g., integrated photonics, electrical or telecommunications engineering).  Minimum 5 years of experience in photonic product development; experience reaching market deployment is highly valued.  Experience with COMSOL, Ansys, RSoft, Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys OptoCompiler, Luceda IPKISS or similar Experience with advanced component design, high-speed modulators or photodiodes.   Experience working directly with EDA vendors or photonic foundries to deliver detailed technical solutions.  Experience with multi-objective co-design.    Excellent written and verbal communication skills; an effective listener able to work directly with engineers, engineering managers, and enterprise stakeholders.    A naturally friendly, helpful, and collaborative attitude.         Nice to Have     Hands-on experience with modern AI tools (LLMs, APIs, agentic systems, orchestration frameworks).  Ability to design solutions that connect device-level physics, circuit-level constraints, and system-level automation.  Programming experience, primarily in Python (scientific computing, workflow orchestration, API integration).  Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, APIs, and deployment workflows.   Familiarity with enterprise deployment models (cloud, hybrid, on-prem) and HPC or cluster-based compute environments.  Experience working with research teams, applied scientists, or R&D organizations on production software.    What we offer Competitive compensation Stock Options Plan: Empowering you to share in our success and growth.
