JOB SUMMARY
The EHS Manager is responsible for owning and leading the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program across Apptronik locations, with primary responsibility for the Austin, Texas site and oversight of EHS activities in additional company locations.
This role will establish, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and compliance programs to ensure safe and compliant operations across multiple sites. The position will transition EHS ownership from an external professional services provider to an internal function and serve as the primary point of contact for all EHS-related activities.
This role requires both strategic program development and hands-on execution, working closely with Facilities, Operations, and cross-functional teams to support a safe and scalable work environment across all locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Own and manage the EHS program across multiple company locations, ensuring consistency in policies, procedures, and compliance standards
Lead the transition of EHS responsibilities from external consultants to internal ownership
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations across operating locations (OSHA and related standards)
Develop and maintain scalable safety programs including hazard assessments, job safety analyses (JSA), and risk mitigation plans
Conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments at the Austin site and support or coordinate audits for other locations
Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, and implement corrective and preventative actions across sites
Develop and deliver EHS training programs, including onboarding and ongoing compliance training across locations
Maintain all required EHS documentation, reporting, and compliance records
Partner with Facilities and Operations teams to support safe workplace design and operational practices across all sites
Serve as the primary point of contact for EHS-related inquiries, inspections, and regulatory interactions
Coordinate with external vendors or consultants for specialized EHS support when required
Support expansion into new locations by establishing EHS requirements, standards, and processes
Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the organization
Travel occasionally to other company locations to assist with EHS support activities, as needed
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
Strong working knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices (OSHA and related frameworks)
Experience managing or supporting EHS programs across multiple locations or business units
Ability to operate independently and take ownership of EHS initiatives across distributed teams
Strong problem-solving and risk assessment capabilities
Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations
Ability to develop scalable processes and standardize safety programs across sites
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment with changing priorities and limited structure
Demonstrated ability to build and implement processes quickly without over-engineering solutions
Comfortable balancing compliance requirements with practical, operational needs in a growing organization
Experience working in high-growth or startup environments preferred
Experience developing and delivering safety training programs
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities across locations
Ability to influence and partner cross-functionally without direct authority
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred
5–8+ years of experience in EHS, safety, or related field
Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, CSP, ASP, CHST) preferred but not required
Experience building or scaling EHS programs across multiple locations strongly preferred
Experience building or scaling EHS programs in a growing or rapidly changing organization strongly preferred
