About this role
POSITION SUMMARY: Natera is seeking a high-caliber Staff Software Engineer to revolutionize our Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) through cutting-edge agentic workflows and production-grade AI services. You will bridge the gap between advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) and the complex world of medical billing, healthcare compliance, and financial forecasting.
This isn't just about "using an API." You will be architecting autonomous agents that read EOBs, navigate payer rules, and automate complex billing workflows—all while maintaining the rigorous security standards required in healthcare.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Systems Architecture: Design and deploy production-grade FastAPI services that wrap LLM calls, maintain stateful agent loops, and expose secure REST/GraphQL endpoints.
Agentic Workflows: Build and orchestrate intelligent agents capable of handling unstructured documents (EOBs, medical records) using vision-augmented NLP and multimodal LLMs.
Advanced RAG: Develop agentic RAG pipelines (chunking, embeddings, vector search) to surface critical codes and payer-specific rules in real-time.
Cloud Operations: Containerize and operate the stack on AWS ECS/Fargate . Own the IaC pipelines to ensure seamless, high-frequency deployments (dev → staging → prod) multiple times a day.
Observability & Analytics: Instrument services with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and Sentry . Create dashboards to forecast denial rates, claim risks, and turnaround times.
Product Evolution: Extend our React-based UI to allow human operators to launch agents, replay conversations, and inspect evaluation traces.
Security & Compliance: Ensure every feature is architected to meet HIPAA , SOC 2, and Natera’s internal security benchmarks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Technical Core
Python Mastery: Expert-level Python developer with a focus on FastAPI for high-performance, asynchronous services.
AI/LLM Stack: Deep experience with LLM orchestration (LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar) and building agentic workflows .
Tools of the Trade: Proficient in AI-augmented development using Claude Code, Gemini, and Cursor to accelerate delivery.
AWS Infrastructure: Solid experience with AWS (ECS/Fargate, Lambda, S3) and CI/CD best practices.
Domain Expertise
Healthcare/RCM: Direct experience in Revenue Cycle Management , medical billing, or healthcare tech. You should understand the nuances of claims, denials, and payer-provider interactions.
Data Handling: Experience processing unstructured healthcare data and a solid grasp of multimodal AI (text + vision).
Soft Skills
Collaborative Mindset: Ability to translate complex requirements from billing, compliance, and finance experts into resilient backend code.
Ownership: A "production-first" mentality—you don't just write code; you operate and monitor it.
